Desert Serendipity

Uncertainty seemed to be my closest companion in my expat life in Doha. Inner questions were so
loud when I found myself lost in a conversation with my friends. I knew I was exactly hearing
what I needed to hear while they had no idea of the storms raging within me. As if guided by an
unseen hand, they spoke of words that sent shivers down my spine. The universe refused to let me
sink into despair.
"Someone told me about Istikhara," my friend said. "It's about seeking the best from Allah." Her
words felt like a light flickered on inside me. A wave of relief washed over me, something I had
been yearning for just fell into place. A tear escaped my eye not for frustration, but for feeling
connected to something greater than myself.
I was feeling that so much was left behind in my homeland. It felt like I was a stranger, uncertain
of my place in the world with suffocating isolation and overwhelming challenges. But when you
think you reached your limit and everything is falling apart, the God reminds you that every
journey brings precious lessons, unexpected moments, and people who will shape you in ways you
could never have imagined.
As I walked back through the streets of Doha, for the first time in a long while, I didn't feel like I
was wandering. I thought about the serendipity of the conversation. Perhaps, the answers had been
there in the warmth of a friend's voice, in the way the universe had orchestrated this meeting just
when needed. As I stepped forward, I quietly realized that there was no need to force certainty
where there was none. I just needed to trust the journey.
I began to see my life in Qatar through a different lens. Instead of mourning what I left behind, I
started to embrace what was in front of me. The endless cups of Karak shared over deep
conversations, the way the city hummed with life even in the stillness of the desert were not just
passing moments but pieces of a puzzle that guided me all along. I finally felt at home, not in a
country or a place, but within myself.
Just when I made peace with the uncertainty of it all, life surprised me most unexpectedly. One
afternoon, as I scrolled through my phone, a message popped up: "Hey, I passed your CV along
for a position that would be perfect for you. No pressure, but I think you should consider it." I
stared at the screen, my heart pounding. My CV? I hadn't even thought about updating it, let alone
applying for jobs. Yet it was an opportunity that seemed to have found me before I even searched
for it.
A flood of emotions rushed through me. Excitement. Doubt. Hope. Fear. But then, I remembered
that night, standing beneath Doha sky and finally trusting the journey, that maybe this was another
whisper from the universe, a sign that I was exactly where I was meant to be. So, with a deep
breath, I let go of the fear and embraced the unknown. I was finally learning that life had a way of
guiding you home even when home was a place you never expected to find yourself.
