Feelings...excitement...joy...eager...anxious...obligation..???
Amir was trying to make sense of the emotions he was having.
Well It was after all what he wanted , wasn't it ?
Didn't someone say – Be careful what you wish for you may just get it!
Amir had got admission in one of the top University in UK. That was a great news
for him and his parents. All the things planned by his parents and him were falling
into place like a movie with known storyline and ending.
Amir has always been above average, hardworking student and a popular boy in his
school. There were no major disruptions in his uneventful comfortable life.
His father was an Orthopedic doctor and his mother was an artist who liked to teach
ceramics. Having a younger sister and a brother with interests in sports and robotics
respectively made for an eclectic family and interesting topics to talk about at the
dining table.
From the time he remembers Amir has always been fascinated by new places,
cultures and traveling to different places .
Amir and his family had been to Disneyland in the US , France , Singapore , Turkey
, South Africa and many more. He realized he was fortunate enough to have a
supportive , moderately well off parents who gave him and his siblings all comforts
of modern life. He has good friends who were from diverse backgrounds and he
enjoyed hanging out with them.
So why this mixed emotions now when he is on a threshold of a milestone and start
of his independent adult life?
Was it the predictability of his life? A forgone conclusion without any unusual
excitement which he needed to go through ? Or was is just nerves of leaving home
and familiar comfortable surroundings?
But he did like travelling , he enjoyed the various school trips with his friends and
classmates .. then what were these strange ambiguous feelings and emotions he was
having? Why now?
Maybe he needed to assimilate his thoughts and do what is needed to be done.
Not complicate matters by useless and unproductive thinking.
That is to follow the natural course of his education and completion of studies to
finally get a decent career, where he would be a contributing member of the society
and make his parents proud. He too wanted to do medicine and go into medical
profession like his father.
Hmmm easier to think like that than have so many doubts.
But what if he is wrong and maybe there is something more than this safe , planned
curated life he and his parents think is best for him . What if he wants to explore
more without set boundaries? Should he take a gap year and travel solo? As it is once
he gets caught up in University and advanced studies there may not be luxury of
time.
Musings and hundred thoughts raced across Amir's mind . He decided to give
himself couple of days and then have a heart to heart with his parents.......
