Journal No 33
Jassim Malik
Ivy woke up to a peaceful Monday morning, stretching as the clock hit 7:30 AM. Something felt special today. Grabbing her phone, she smiled at a notification from Tim.
"Good morning!"
She quickly replied: "Hi, good morning! :)"
Tim responded almost immediately: "Are you ready to meet?"
Ivy blushed, typing back: "Yeah." "Rozana Cafe 8:30 am see you".
Ivy, buzzing with excitement, opens her diary and writes:
Journal No 33
"I am super excited. It is my first date! I am imagined this day would come into my life.
He is Tim. He invited me to Rozana Cafe today. I'm thrilled to meet him!"
With a smile, she picks out a rose-colored skirt, slips it on, and checks herself in the mirror. Confident and
ready, she grabs her bag, tucks her diary inside, and heads out, eager to meet Tim.
Ivy parks her car and walks into Rozana Cafe, glancing around. At 8:26 AM, the cafe is eerily empty. She hesitantly sits at a glass-side table, her nerves growing as the minutes tick by- 8:32 AM, still no sign of Tim. A car pulls up outside, and she wonders if it's him. A man steps out, dressed sharply in polished black shoes, indigo pants, and a sky-blue shirt. He walks toward the cafe with confidence, catching her eye through the glass. Her heart races could this be Tim?
He stops behind her, staring and she turns, smiling nervously. "Hi." He doesn't respond, still staring at her. "Are you Tim?" She asks. Her smile fades, and then he bursts into laughter.
"Hah! Yes, I'm Tim."
He smirked. "Why were you scared?"
Ivy exhaled, laughing nervously. "You startled me." They chuckled. A waiter approached. "Good morning! What would you like?"
Tim glanced at Ivy. "Two flat whites."
She smiled. The waiter nodded and left.
Tim leaned forward. "Ahem. So, what brought us here?"
Ivy flipped her hair back playfully. "Maybe by chance."
Tim's expression shifted. "Do you believe
in fate?"
Before Ivy could answer, the waiter returned with coffee. Then-Tim's watch beeped. The waiter lingered. Their faces turned solemn, staring at Ivy. Tim's voice darkened. "It's over."
Ivy chuckled. "I won't be scared this time."
Tim abruptly pushed back his chair and left.
Her smile vanished. Confused, she stared after him. Then-her phone rang. An unknown number. A soft, apologetic voice. "It's done. You have to return home, Ivy."
Her stomach twisted. "What? Who is this?"
"Check your journal, Ivy."
Dread creeping in, she tossed her phone onto the table, yanked her journal from her bag, and flipped
through it. Her breath caught. Every page was identical.
Journal No. 33
I am super excited. It's my first date. I never imagined this day would come...
Again. And again. And again.
Her hands trembled. The words wouldn't change. She wasn't meeting Tim for the first time. She had met him before. Many time before. And she had forgotten. Every. Single. Time.
