Lesson Plans & Potted Plants
Ambiy Vinod Chandran
Mira had two great loves in life—teaching science and her little balcony garden. Both had betrayed her today.
First, her students had spent an entire class debating whether a tomato was a fruit or a vegetable instead of listening to her lesson. Then, she knocked over her prized basil plant while rushing to grade papers.
Frustrated, she grabbed her phone and fired off a text.
Mira: "If one more thing goes wrong today, I swear I'm quitting teaching and becoming a full-time gardener."
A moment later, a reply popped up.
Unknown Number: "Good choice. Plants don't talk back."
Mira frowned. Wait... Noora's name wasn't showing.
Mira: "Oops! Wrong number! Sorry, just venting."
Unknown Number: "No problem. But seriously, plants are great listeners. No sarcasm, no attitude. Just quiet photosynthesis."
She chuckled.
Mira: "True. Though my students have about the same attention span as my succulents—low maintenance but always on the verge of collapse."
Unknown Number: "Sounds like my high school chemistry class. I once set a Bunsen burner on fire."
Mira: "That's... kind of the point of a Bunsen burner?"
Unknown Number: "Yeah, but I also set the teacher's scarf on fire."
Mira gasped, then burst out laughing.
Mira: "Please tell me you weren't trying to impress someone."
Unknown Number: "Let's just say... it didn't work."
Mira: "I teach science, by the way. And I take my scarf collection very seriously."
Unknown Number: "Noted. Also, I'm Aadam. And I run a plant nursery. So if you do quit teaching, I might have a job for you."
Mira blinked. What were the chances?
Mira: "Wait, you actually work with plants?"
Aadam: "Yep. No talking back, no missing homework, just plants quietly thriving. Well... mostly."
Mira: "Let me guess. Even plant guys accidentally kill a cactus sometimes?"
Aadam: "You have no idea."
That night, Mira found herself smiling at her phone. Maybe today hadn't been so bad after all.
And maybe... a wrong number was about to grow into something very right.
